At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, we believe every child is a unique and valued individual, created in the image and likeness of God. Our EYFS curriculum is rooted in Faith, as we live by God’s word and nurture a Christ-centred community where each child’s spiritual journey is cherished. We provide a broad, balanced and inclusive learning experience that nurtures the whole child academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually, while fostering Respect for themselves, others and the world around them.
Our child-centred curriculum is shaped by children’s interests, abilities and needs. Through Friendship, we promote caring and positive relationships, creating a strong sense of belonging so every child can flourish. We nurture confident, resilient and independent learners who demonstrate Determination, persevere through challenges and strive to achieve their full potential. Through high-quality interactions, purposeful play and rich language experiences, and in Unity with parents, carers, the parish and the wider community, we ensure all children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

Implementation
We follow the Early Years Statutory Framework (DfE, updated July 2025), delivering a carefully sequenced curriculum that builds on what children know and can do. Learning takes place through a balance of adult-led teaching and purposeful play, supported by a rich indoor and outdoor environment. High-quality interactions, continuous provision and structured teaching in phonics, early reading, writing, mathematics and RE ensure strong foundations for future learning. Ongoing assessment and observation inform planning and next steps, with close communication between home and school.
Impact
Children make good progress from their starting points and are well prepared for Key Stage 1. By the end of Reception, most achieve the Early Learning Goals and demonstrate confidence, independence and positive attitudes to learning. Our pupils leave EYFS as well-rounded, capable learners who embody our values of Faith, Friendship, Determination, Respect and Unity, ready for the next stage of their education.
