Growing, Writing, and Creating: A Busy Fortnight in Year 2!
08.05.26 Year 2
Another two fantastic weeks of learning have flown by in our classroom! We have been incredibly busy exploring new topics, getting hands-on with nature, and diving deep into our math and English lessons. Here is a look at what we’ve been up to:
🌻 Green Thumbs with Miss Sophia
Our absolute highlight over the last fortnight has been working with Miss Sophia to learn all about plants. To put our green thumbs to the test, we rolled up our sleeves and planted our very own sunflowers! We are so excited to look after them and watch them grow tall over the coming weeks.
🧜♂️ Splashing Into a New Story
In English, we have started an exciting new unit centered around the beautiful book, Julián Is a Mermaid by Jessica Love. The children have loved diving into Julián's world, exploring the vibrant illustrations, and using their imagination. To bring the story to life, everyone has been working hard on writing their own creative diary entries from Julián’s perspective.
📐 Marvelous Maths
We’ve been putting our thinking caps on in math as we tackle fractions. The classroom has been buzzing with focus as we master finding halves, quarters and thirds of both shapes and physical amounts. Working with concrete objects has really helped us visualize how we share things equally!
Looking Ahead...
We can’t believe there are only two weeks left of the term! We have a lot to look forward to before the holidays, including:
-
Creative Art Lessons: Painting and mixed media: Life in colour
Investigating collage techniques through the work of Romare Bearden, focusing on colour mixing and creating texture using different tools.
-
A Special Visit: We are counting down the days until our amazing interactive session with Electric Umbrella!
