The 'Take One Picture' Project

Our Year 3 and Reception pupils have been working collaboratively on the 'Take One Picture' project, the National Gallery’s countrywide scheme for primary schools. Each year, the National Gallery chooses one painting from its collection to inspire cross-curricular work. Last year, our Reception class (now Year 1) took part, and our school was proudly selected as one of just 35 schools to exhibit out of 362 nationwide. You can visit their exhibition at the National Gallery here:
This year’s inspiration is the focus painting 'A Muse' by Cosimo Tura. We owe a huge thank you to Mrs. Ashworth, one of our parents, who originally inspired us to embark on this journey; she has done a brilliant job coordinating the project and helping the children develop their ideas into the wonderful piece of artwork seen above.
In connection with the project, Year 3 pupils have explored a variety of exciting creative techniques, including egg tempera painting, acrylic painting, and gold leaf gilding. They also enjoyed cross-curricular sessions such as 'International History of Animal Myth' and 'Greek Culture and Mythology/Muse', beautifully led by another of our talented parents, Mrs. Isseris. Through this collaborative effort, our pupils have created an inspiring piece of art while expanding their knowledge of history and culture. We will keep you posted on the next steps of our project!
