Intent
At St Alban & St Stephen Catholic Primary School, our PSHE and RHSE curriculum supports pupils in developing the knowledge, skills and values they need to live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives, rooted in our Catholic faith. It helps children grow into emotionally healthy, socially confident individuals who can form positive relationships and make responsible choices.
Through age-appropriate learning, pupils explore a range of personal, social, moral and cultural topics, developing skills such as self-awareness, respect, emotional wellbeing, personal safety and social responsibility. Our PSHE & RSHE curriculum is fully inclusive, ensuring that all pupils, including those with SEND, are supported to thrive.
Guided by Gospel values, PSHE & RHSE is an important part of our school ethos, helping pupils understand themselves, care for others and prepare confidently for the next stage of their journey.
Implementation
Our PSHE and RHSE curriculum is delivered through the TenTen Life to the Full programme, providing a clear and progressive structure from Early Years to Year 6. Lessons are taught discretely in a safe and supportive environment, enabling pupils to explore key concepts and skills in an age-appropriate way, rooted in the Christian belief that every person is created and loved by God. RHSE is taught in the Summer term, covering key aspects of relationships, safety and life in the wider world. PSHE is also woven throughout the wider curriculum and daily school life, reinforced through collective worship, classroom practice and special events such as Anti-Bullying Week and E-Safety Day. Ongoing assessment through discussion and reflection ensures learning meets the needs of all pupils. Our PSHE and RHSE curriculum meets all statutory and Diocesan guidance.
